Going green means finding ways, big and small, to help protect the planet. And one of those ways could be switching to solid cosmetics... But in order to get the best out of them, there are a couple of things you need to know.

  1. How should you store them?
  2. And above all, how should you use them?

Today, we're going to tell you all about the best ways to use and store solid cosmetics, so you can keep them in tip-top condition! We'll also be giving you a few tips to make them last as long as possible and ensure you enjoy all their benefits.

If you're new to solid cosmetics, by the time you've finished reading this article, you'll be an expert! A whole new beauty experience awaits!

Let's start by looking at how to use solid cosmetics, from our solid shampoos to our solid conditioner, solid facial cleansers, solid toothpastes, solid deodorant, solid cocoa butter and solid shaving bar.

How to use solid cosmetics

When you switch to natural, solid cosmetics, you discover a whole new way to look after your face, body, teeth and hair. These personal care products are a little bit different from what you're used to, but soooo much better for the planet! We'll tell you how to use our solid cosmetics to create new beauty routines that you'll love!

How to use a solid shampoo

If you've never used a solid shampoo to wash your hair before, you may be asking yourself a few questions... Will it lather up? Will it really clean your hair? Will it leave it soft and shiny? And can it work as well as a regular shampoo?

Follow our tips and soon you'll be a solid shampoo pro!

  1. First of all, wet your hair well. Make sure the water isn't too hot, or it could damage your locks. If you decided to use a hair mask or oil before shampooing, rinse it off well.
  2. For those of you with very long hair, one of the best ways to make sure you wash it well is to divide it into four sections. Then rub the solid shampoo generously over the base of each section, near the roots. Don't forget to rub it over the scalp. And remember: you don't need to use shampoo on the ends of your hair!
  3. Once you've finished applying your shampoo, you'll need to work it into your hair. To do this, we recommend that you focus on the roots and massage your scalp with your fingertips. While you're doing this, your shampoo will create a wonderful lather!
  4. Now all that's left to do is to rinse your shampoo out. For extra shine (and if you're feeling brave!) rinse your hair with cold water.

How to use a solid conditioner

Using a solid conditioner is ever so easy, as it's really not that different from using a regular one.

Begin by washing your hair and squeezing out any excess moisture. Then you can apply your conditioner. So far, so good. Right? But with a solid conditioner, there are two different ways you can use it. Either apply it directly to lengths and ends, or rub it between your hands to produce a light lather, then work it through your hair. You can rinse it off straight away, or leave it on for a few minutes for even better results. It leaves your hair easy to detangle and manage, and oh-so soft!

The Lamazuna solid conditioner is certified organic! Find out more about our labels and certifications here.

How to use a solid facial cleanser

Begin by wetting your face with water and moistening your solid facial cleanser too. You can apply the cleanser in two ways: either directly to the skin or with the fingertips. The skin of your face is delicate, so if you rub the solid cleanser over it directly, make sure you do so gently. Soon, it will produce a lovely light lather! Alternatively, rub it between your hands to create a lather, then apply to your face. Massage the cleanser into your skin with the fingertips or – for deeper cleansing – with a konjac sponge.

It's important to use a solid facial cleanser that suits your skin type. If you're not sure what your skin type is, this article should help!

How to use a solid toothpaste

It's really easy to use a solid toothpaste! Simply wet your toothbrush with a little warm water, then rub it over your solid toothpaste to work up a foam. Now you're ready to brush your teeth, just as you would with a regular toothpaste. Finish by rinsing your mouth.

Loyal users of our solid toothpastes have told us that they last at least as long as two tubes of standard toothpaste!

If you're taking a homeopathic remedy, we recommend waiting half an hour after brushing your teeth before taking any homeopathy pills, to avoid any reduction in their effectiveness.

How to use a solid deodorant

The "magic ingredient" that enables our solid cosmetics to work is water! Once our products come into contact with water, they can release all their powers! The Lamazuna solid deodorant is no exception to the rule. Moisten it with a little water (preferably warm), then apply gently to your underarms. It will leave a fine layer of "cream" on your skin that protects against BO without interfering with your body's natural perspiration process.

Our original Lamazuna solid deodorant contains palmarosa essential oil, which has antibacterial properties. So it fights the bacteria that cause bad odours – such as those from sweat!

How to use the solid cocoa butter

You can either warm up the cocoa butter between your hands or rub it directly over the part of your body that you want to nourish. It transforms into a fine layer of oil, which you can apply just like a cream. Our solid cocoa butter is a 3-in-1 product! You can use it to care for the skin of your face or body, and even as a massage oil. Lamazuna cocoa butters are also perfectly safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. So if you're looking for a butter that's good for your bump, you've found it!

Our solid cocoa butter is handmade in the Nice region of France using naturally derived ingredients. It leaves behind a film of oil that will nourish your skin, while still letting it breathe.

We now have two solid cocoa butters, in two different colours! Our white solid cocoa butter is made with baobab oil and has a frangipani scent, while our pink solid cocoa butter is certified COSMOS Organic and able to cope with high temperatures – so it's perfect for summer!

How to use a solid shaving bar

Did you know that you don't need a shaving brush to use our shaving bar? Yes, really!

All you have to do is moisten it with a little water, then gently rub it over your skin. It leaves a rich, creamy lather that lets your razor glide over your skin with the greatest ease!

The Lamazuna solid shaving bar is a unisex product, and can be used on the face, legs, or anywhere you want to shave. And because it's made with shea butter, it cares for your skin too!

For a zero-waste shave, why not use it with our safety razor?

How to store solid cosmetics

Most conventional cosmetic products come in plastic packaging (and are often made with petrochemical preservatives), so the question of how to store them correctly doesn't usually arise. But when it comes to unwrapped, solid personal care products, it'sperfectly normal that you should want to know the best way to look after, store and transport them.

Why should solid cosmetics be kept dry?

If you want your solid cosmetics to last, keep them away from their biggest enemy: moisture! You already know that if a soap bar stays wet, it gets smaller faster. It's the same with solid cosmetics.

Once you've used them, the best thing to do is to let them air dry. And the easiest way to do that is to place them on a soap holder that drains the water off. But there are other ways to store your solid cosmetics...

Storing solid cosmetics: a few tips from Lamazuna

The Hydrophil soap pouch

There are two big advantages to the Hydrophil soap pouch:

- It keeps your solid cosmetic product dry, and if any little slivers come off, they'll stay in the pouch rather than going down the drain!

- If you use the pouch with a soap, you can cleanse and exfoliate your body at the same time! The pouch is made from a natural fibre called sisal, which gently scrubs your skin, to leave it feeling soft and smooth.

The Lamazuna jar

Our 100ml glass Lamazuna jar is perfect for holding your solid cosmetics. You can use it for your solid deodorant, shampoo, facial cleanser, toothpaste, and even the solid cocoa butter! It has a perforated lid, so that moisture can evaporate, and your solid cosmetics can dry out between uses.

The cherry on the cake? You can take it with you anywhere! Use it to hold your products when you go on holiday or for a romantic weekend away, or slip it into your sports bag when you go to the gym.

A few tips from the Lamazuna team!

At Lamazuna, we've found various different ways to store our solid cosmetics. Some Lamazunians place them in a net bag, which they hang from a tap. Others prefer to wrap them in a clean, dry face cloth. A few have even come up with their own DIY solutions and made a bespoke little fabric bag, using hessian cloth, linen, cotton or organdie.

A pouch for solid cosmetics: introducing the Lamazuna mini pouch!

We have so many good things to say about it!

Made in France from upcycled fabric, the Lamazuna mini pouch is ideal for storing and transporting your solid cosmetics.

When we began working on this zero-waste accessory, we wanted it to reflect our values and fit perfectly into your lifestyle.

That's why we decided to team up with a garment-making workshop that's less than 60 miles away from our offices in the Drôme region. This workshop helps to reintegrate people into society through work, so it has a positive social impact – and that's something we care passionately about.

Another reason to love our mini pouch is that every one is absolutely unique! The pouches are made from upcycled clothing or furniture fabrics that are given a second life, so no two are ever the same!

Our mini pouches aren't waterproof, so we recommend removing any excess moisture from your solid cosmetics before putting them inside. To care for your mini pouch, you can simply wash it by hand or machine-wash at 30°C.

With the Lamazuna mini pouch, you can take your solid cosmetics with you anywhere. Take a look at our pouch pics!
